  2. If you live in an area that gets heavy snow, or you have to drive through deep mud often, get a 4X4. If you live in an area where it’s relatively calm in the winter, or the roads aren’t an issue, then just get the 2-wheel drive.

There’s no sense in getting a 4X4 if you’re never going to use it, because the 2-wheel-drive version is much less expensive.

  3. Yes they are. Were do you live, country, city?? Do you like camping, fishing, etc.? Is your area (home) flood hazard, hills? Then 4wd.

  4. Unless you live somewhere with mountains and/or where you experience REAL weather, like snow and ice, or you actually want to go off-roading with the truck, which it doesn’t sound like you do, then yes, four-wheel drive is a waste of money and gas.

4WD trucks get worse gas mileage than 2WDs, something to consider when buying a pick-up with today’s rising gas prices.

Best of luck with your purchase!

  5. I have a 2002 F150 2WD with the 4.6 liter Triton V8. Its a great little truck for hauling small loads. I would want to have the 4WD if I was going to drive on mountain roads alot. It doesn’t seem to have as much torque as my Silverado, but I like driving it more. I would go with the 5.4 liter engine and the 4WD if I was ging to be towing anything more than a small trailer. Or, step up to the F250.
