Does anyone know anything about leaks on 2004 Ford Explorer 4×4?
CBS asked:
I have a 04 Explorer 4×4 with a hose that has come loose around the transmission and is leaking what I think is transmission fluid. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what might cause this. It isn’t leaking a lot of fluid and I am not having any problems with my car other than fluid on my garage floor. I am just affraid it might mean I have a bad seal in my transmission or transfer case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

there are two lines that go in to the transmission ,I’m not real familiar with the one your describing though, the transfer case has a vent tube on the top of it ,but i don’t think that’s what your talking about,,you need to have this one looked at,i wouldn’t think that one that new would need new seals in it yet,,but have someone look it over ,and maybe they can find the leak, good luck on it.

Hard to tell without seeing it .The fluid should be pink or red in color and oily . if you can, take it to your trusted mechanic and ask him how bad it is, could just be a loose fitting,. Keep an eye on the trans fluid in the mean time. And allways check it warm, (trans) keep it between full and add. approx 6-8 oz.

If you have a leaking hose, the best way to check it is to start the vehicle and crawl under it and have someone shift gears while the truck is running with the emergency brake on and their foot on the brake and look for leaks .If the connection is loose and leaking you will be able to see which connection it is coming from. If you have a loose connection, tighten it back down. If the hose is leaking you should be able to see where it is coming from. If the fluid is leaking from tubing, the best way to fix is to replace the cooling line. You can measure the length of the line and replace it with one you can buy at most parts stores. You will have to bend the tubing so be sure to pick up a tubing bender. Another way to fix it is to get a foot of transmission cooling line and four clamps.Once you figure out where the line is leaking use a tubing cutter or hack saw to cut that part out. Measure the split and cut you transmission cooling hose so it overlaps the cut by about an inch or inch and a half on either side, slip the tubing inside the hose and clamp the hose on the tube with two clamps on each side of the split. Be sure you use transmission cooling hose. Don’t let anyone try to sell you fuel or water hose. They can’t take the chemicals in transmission fluid and will be eaten up and leak or break down and burst.
